Big City Living (Midpoint Mingle)

The town of Midpoint: called thus because it is at the exact center of the game arena, a busy little Western town full of strange people, many of whom don’t look remotely human, because this is where all the players gather and live. Midpoint Saloon: called thus because it is the only bar in Midpoint. It’s also the biggest building in town, four stories high, dotted with windows, painted a jaunty yellow and decorated with red and green flowers in all the window boxes.

This is where your veteran teammate points you. Or just stomps off to and hopes you follow.

Downstairs is a bar and tavern, Old West style, right down to the upright piano in one corner and a raucous crowd of locals - largely locals, but with a healthy smattering of unusual or downright alien faces that clearly indicate the presence of other Players - eating, drinking, gambling, and getting into trouble. There’s a broad, bearded man behind the bar, waving cheerfully at you as you enter.

The rest of the night and the next day is yours to do with what you see fit. Explore the town, take a long nap in your new room, try to get to know people... everyone is here for the next twenty-four hours before travel to the mission site, so it’s a good chance to scope out the competition, at the very least.

"No." Although truthfully, she hadn't been aware that they even had to.

It's no requirement as far as she's aware, but a curious thing to skip.

"Should think on ideas, when you've got the focus to spare. Better you have something specific to call, and the horse to know when you need 'em. And it's fun, much as anything here's fun." Most of the fun to be found does in fact center around the hoses, in her limited experience. "Makes sense it might not be a priority right now, I guess."

Irene considers that. The horse she's been given is smart but demanding, and canny enough to be trouble if she wants to be. Irene has known some people like that. One name in particular keeps coming to mind, and if the thought pains Irene in any way, she doesn't show it. She actually thinks the woman in question might appreciate it. "Teresa."

"Pretty." Easy observation, asks little of either participant in this conversation. Thrilled to have been the impetus, Irene. "Been around horses much, before this?"

"Not really." Humans were more apt to use them in her world; warriors tended to walk everywhere.

"Probably wouldn't advise much of it tonight with a match so soon, but a couple extra laps around when you've got free time might be useful. Horses are a big variable even aside from just bonding, y'know? It's good to know if they tend to duck a certain way or if they spook easy. Once things have died down I know some good quiet paths, if you're interested."

Nothing but sincerity and interest, on her end. More advice starting out would have done her good, and she'll pay forward what she can.

"That would be helpful, thank you." See, she can be polite when she wants to. But she's also going to need the practice, especially since she's riding one-handed.
